YMMV / The Three Stooges: The Movie

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: Seeing Moe beat the ever-loving crap out of the Jersey Shore cast is a great relief for anyone who despised that show.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Sister Mary-Mengle having a ring tone that sounds like a flat-lining heart monitor.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • The three started out as orphans, and Moe was the first to get adopted, his new parents declaring that day as his birthday and asking him what he would like. Moe's big wish — for his two friends to join him. They return to the orphanage only to ditch him there.
      • Needless to say, Larry and Curly are very taken aback when they discover the truth years later.
    • Moe giving a friendly head pat to Larry when it turns out there really was too much iron in the water.
    • The Stooges reuniting again after Curly and Larry discover the truth about Moe staying back. Needless to say, Moe's "porcupine" after they hug will melt you.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The casting of the cast of Jersey Shore as themselves was largely seen as something that dated the movie (not helped by the fact that, roughly 8 months after its original release, said show was cancelled). Flash forward 6 years after the release of the movie, and the show is brought back with almost all of the original castnote , meaning this aspect isn't that dated anymore.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: You just watched this movie just to see Moe beat up the cast of Jersey Shore, didn't you?
    • Others who don't mind the plot came only to see in the Stooges their trademark slapstick.
  • Nausea Fuel: This is a Farrelly Brothers' production, after all.
  • Questionable Casting: The cast of Jersey Shore seems pretty glaring. That (along with Kate Upton and her cameo as a swimsuit-wearing nun) will definitely make it an Unintentional Period Piece, but then again, the original shorts and feature films count as that, too.
  • Retroactive Recognition: The little girl that gets stuck holding too many balloons is Mika Samuels.
  • So Okay, It's Average:
    • General consensus is that the three leads do an excellent job portraying Moe, Larry and Curly, but the so-so plot and loads of already dated pop culture references bog the movie down. One review likened it to "watching a really, really good Three Stooges 'cover band'."
    • Shemp being ignored without so much as being referenced (even when they made a reference to Ted Healy) was not well received by his fans or Stooge purists.
    • Many believe that, had the film been a Biopic as originally intended, it would've worked much better.
  • Special Effect Failure: Any time someone falls from something, it's obvious the actor's been replaced by a stunt dummy. Of course, this was how they did it in the original shorts, so it's clearly played for laughs (one instance has the Stooges go over a wall as floppy-limbed dummies and then, in a rather neat effect, they stand back up again and dust themselves off with no camera cutaway).
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The film wasn't even able to avoid this, even with it being set in present day (not that it really did much to avoid being a period piece). It's practically a time capsule for the early 2010s, what with indie rock tunes popping up all over and the inclusion of the Jersey Shore cast, a show that got canceled only eight months after the film premiered.
