YMMV / The Technomancer

Go To

  • So Okay, It's Average: The main issue of the game. It's got a decently interesting world, leveling system and RPG mechanics but suffers from bland characters with little room for growth and development, a somewhat clunky and unintuitive interface, special powers that amount to little more than being a walking electrical outlet and a story that takes its sweet time getting off the ground. The brutal difficulty and rather obvious plot twists don't do the game any favors either. Still, it can be a reasonably fun experience for fans of the genre or people who want something a little different than what the AAA titles have to offer.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Several things could have been made a lot better:
    • The story. To quote several reviewers: "How do you fuck up the plot of a game about space wizards on mars?!" While the plot isn't terrible it's pretty standard RPG fare with a lot of reveals that the player will see coming. Simply put, a lot could have been done to make things more interesting and original.
    • The Technomancer abilities. With a name like "Technomancer" many players were hoping to see things like command and control of robotic minions, the ability to harness and bend technology to one's will or maybe even some Deus Ex style augmentations and special powers. What do players get in the actual game? Some minor Shock and Awe attacks and the ability to unlock giant doors. Oh, and the doors can only be opened with another Technomancer's assistance. To say people were a little disappointed would be the understatement of the century.
    • The world. The setting itself is fairly interesting and original, but is bogged down by a bad interface. The area for each map is huge with a lot of twists and turns, making navigation a chore. The actual story and missions also do little to expand upon the lore and history of the places the player visits, instead requiring them to sit through several Info Dumps from various NPCs to learning anything worthwhile.
