- Broken Base: While an overall acclaimed album, it has received some flak for its Mood Whiplash and length. Some songs are more acclaimed than others, with a number of outtakes being considered far superior to certain tracks that made the album.
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff:
- Zig-Zagged with the Title Track: it wasn't released as a single in America, but was a hit in some European countries. That said, it's widely recognized as an absolute classic and is consistently recognized by both critics and fans as one of his best songs.
- While Bruce had toured Europe before in 1975, this was the album and corresponding tour that fully established him and the E Street Band as an international act. To this day, Europe has been one of Springsteen's strongest fanbases.
- Misaimed Fandom: In the past, Bruce had to tell audiences not to set off fireworks during the song "Independence Day". Considering the song has nothing to do with the corresponding holiday beyond the title, his frustration makes sense.
- Signature Song: "Hungry Heart" and the Title Track are of course the most popular songs on the album, and are among Springsteen's overall most popular material. Then, there's also "Out in the Street", which is a notable track thanks to its massive live popularity.
