Trivia / The River (1980)

Go To

  • Breakthrough Hit: "Hungry Heart" was his first Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 5. This helped propel Bruce to a more mainstream audience rather than purely rock fans. It would be his biggest hit until "Dancing in the Dark".
  • Cut Song: Several, as testified by The Ties That Bind: The River Collection, a collection of tracks recorded during the album's sessions but ultimately not released on it. Fairly prominent examples are "Be True" (a charting B-side for Bruce) and "From Small Things" (covered by Dave Edmunds and a charting single for the latter).
  • What Could Have Been:
    • "Hungry Heart" was originally written for The Ramones as they were aware of Bruce's reputation for giving away songs that would become hits like Patti Smith's "Because The Night". Bruce's manager Jon Landau convinced Bruce to keep the song. One can only imagine what a Ramones version of "Hungry Heart" would've sounded like.
