YMMV / The Queen's Corgi

Go To

  • Critical Dissonance: The film currently holds 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics panning the crass, family-unfriendly humor and the political and pop cultural jokes that will quickly date the film. Audience reception is somewhat more positive (38% on Rotten Tomatoes), with some viewers appreciating the adult jokes. Saberspark, for example, gave a very positive review of the movie.
  • Fandom Rivalry: A minor one with The Secret Life of Pets, due to the similar premise. Some who watched Queen's Corgi think it has a much better constructed plot, and deride the former due to being made by a more accessible studio.
  • Just Here for Godzilla:
    • Even though he doesn't have much presence in the movie, the mere existence of a CGI Donald Trumpnote  threw a lot of people off-guard, to the point that some ended up watching the movie just to see that.
    • After the deaths of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, there are fans watch the film for them, as it was made while they were still alive.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: This is one of the main contributors the movie's negative reception. Marketing has it perceived as having a harmless The Secret Life of Pets-esque premise of Queen Elizabeth II's top corgi getting lost and trying to find the way home, yet the actual film has lots of mature humor and themes no one would expect for a kids' movie: mild profanity throughout, Charlie's attempt to murder Rex the said corgi, the very intense dog fights, a dog that's addicted to cocaine (actually shoelaces), Wanda used as a stand-in for an exotic dancer in an abusive relationship with the fight club owner, most egregiously, Donald Trump's lewd portrayal and Rex being sexually harassed by Trump's corgi as reference to Trump's sexual assault allegations. However, it should be noted the film was produced in Belgium, where standards for family-friendly content are different.
