• Abandon Shipping: A video revealed that James has a girlfriend that is not Jaiden. He even makes it pretty clear that they are not and never were a couple, and that he considers it very disrespectful to ship real people. The ship was further torpedoed into oblivion after Jaiden came out as aroace.
• Awesome Music: "Life is Fun", featuring Boyinaband. This song slides up and down on the Sliding Scale of Cynicism vs. Idealism, with James being the idealist (and even to the point of being a Wide-Eyed Idealist at times) and Boyinaband being the cynic. After a while, it turns out Boyinaband was just giving away his point of view, he Took a Level in Idealism as a result and James wins the argument.
• Crosses the Line Twice: in his Bluey video where he gives his opinion on it, James does a clip in where his fursona and his nephew watch a fictional episode of Caillou in where Doris spanks Caillou after the former uses her make-up on Rosie despite being told many times before not to. Corporal Punishment is a pretty sensitive subject nowadays, but one can't help but laugh at the clip because of James' over-the-top angry female voice for Doris, the funny pain sounds and the fact that the character being spanked is Caillou, so it can also double as Catharsis Factor for people who dislike him (such as James himself).
• Estrogen Brigade: Believe it or not, James has a noticeable fangirl following.
• Fridge Brilliance: In "My Mom's Cruel and Unusual Punishments", a young James is shown asking to go to "wecess". Some videos reveal that James actually did have the Elmuh Fudd Syndwome speech defect as a boy.
• Harsher in Hindsight:
  • A mild example but James goes on enthusiastically about how a second season of Dark Crystal Age of Resistance needs to be green-lit in The Netflix Series That Was Too Scary for Adult James. The next year it was announced that the show was canceled.
  • In James' video "Scams That Should Be Illegal", James heavily criticizes the practice of free-to-play games (particularly games on phones) for how they manipulate kids into sinking hundreds of dollars into them. A year later, James would release an official Odd1sOut game that would feature many of the practices he previously scrutinized.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: In "Starting Conversations", he discusses how his answer to "What's your favorite Candy Bar?" is and always will be M&Ms, despite them not being a candy bar. At least, they weren't at the time the video was made.
• Ho Yay: James gets a bit of this with Dave from Boyinaband, when James says that kids should stay in school in "Academy Anecdotes" it cuts to him and Dave crammed in the sound booth and James asks him "Right, Dave?", referencing to his song "Don't Stay in School". James then decides to stroke Dave's cheek and play a little with his hair.^*  Which is followed by both of them Corpsing for a split-second
  • Dave later used that exact clip in his Behind the Scenes to "Life is Fun". Except that he edited it to make it look even more shippy, complete with cheesy romantic guitar music.
  • Then there's also the last scene in "Life is Fun" with James hugging Dave and dancing next to his hip. The way James is dancing looks a bit like he's trying to hump Dave.
  • James also sometimes gets shipped with CarlSagan42, whom he met at the Comic Con, and he jokingly admits that "senpais can have senpais".
  • James is also shipped with Adam from SomethingElseYT as they're close friends who some fans speculate live together, as most videos they make in a house show them together.
• Memetic Mutation:
  • #BoycottChipotleBecauseTheyDidn'tHireJamesLike3YearsAgo^Explanation  In James' "My Thoughts on Job Interviews" video he discusses an instance when he applied for a Chipotle restaurant, and was rejected because he had previously been rejected by a different Chipotle, a reasoning which he heavily criticizes. He proceeds to recite the above, intentionally wordy hashtag, which quickly took off with fans.
  • BOY WERE THEY WRONG! It's also often used in a more mundane context, such as someone simply guessing wrong.
  • "Mother, I would be most grateful if you let me consume a pastry with high levels of sugar and simple carbohydrates." ^Explanation This is from the fourth video by James about his time at Subway, said with stoic eloquence by a young child wearing water wings. It's a combination of From the Mouths of Babes and Brainy Baby that make it so funny — the kid is just saying "Mom, I want a cookie" — and it's still one of the more popular lines from all of his videos.

• Moment of Awesome: James, along with JaidenAnimations and Anthony Padilla, all decided to compete in MrBeast's YouTuber-Only Airsoft Battle Royale just for the sake of it, without high hopes or anything at all, knowing the odds were stacked up against them. And not only did they not do horrible, they managed to win the first round.
• Narm: Due to only being nine when he wrote it, the book I Do Not Like This Family from "A Book I Made as a Kid" has an example: there's a scene that's meant to be dramatic as it concerns the protagonist, an Author Avatar who's a bit older than James actually was at the time but only by two years, getting kidney failure. Its delivery, however, comes across as rather comical, since it contains an all-caps "SAID" just to rebel against the teacher-enforced Said Bookism, the line that James is emphatically saying (as he's passing out) is "What isssssssss zzz", James's father diagnoses him just by touching his face and confirming that it hurts, and the declaration of "Kidney failure!" is followed by four frowny faces in parentheses.
• Popular with Furries: He sometimes makes videos about furry topics, even though he swears that he isn't one. He seemed to have embraced his furry following later on, and even has had a fursuit commissioned of his fursona, Chip, who appears in a few of his videos. He also occasionally posted on a certain furry-themed forum on Reddit from his official account, although he has since deleted all such posts from his profile.
• Real Person Shipping: Fans have shipped him and Jaiden, and that's all we'll say about that.
• Squick:
  • Although they aren't Gonks, James has a tendency of drawing most characters in his videos with features attributed to Gonks, including drool, pronounced acne, and outie navels.
  • We get a gross close-up of James' bumps on his back in the end of TimTom's Christmas Trivia Game video.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Many fans got this reaction after watching "Embarrassing Times to get Recognized" thinking that he changed his animation style, not knowing it was a Multi-Animator Project.
