The 1925 film

  • Awesome Music: The Alloy Orchestra's dynamic and unusual (for a Silent Movie) soundtrack adds considerably to the suspense and sense of danger.
  • Fair for Its Day: Zambo may be portrayed by an actor in blackface makeup and have a Funetik Aksent, but he's fairly intelligent and helpful, spinning a rope ladder to help those trapped on the plateau escape. He's also never mistreated by the white expedition members.
  • Older Than They Think: While the Professor Challenger stories do feature Malone marrying, the Professor's daughter Enid no less, she did not debut until a year after this film.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Ed and Paula exchange one or two sentences in one scene and fall in love with each other in a next scene, as they have nothing better to do, apparently.
  • Viewer Species Confusion: The Tyrannosaurus that kills the Agathaumas is often believed to be another Allosaurus, which is not helped by the fact it doesn't look much different than the movie's Allosaurus other than its larger size. The only source that confirms it to be a Tyrannosaurus is the book, The Complete Dinosaur.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: For their time, at least. The movie's Stop Motion effects may look choppy close to 100 years later, but in 1925 they were groundbreaking and, along with King Kong, would have a tremendous influence on the likes of Ray Harryhausen, who would go on to vastly improve the art before the dawn of CGI.
