YMMV / The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon

Go To

  • Awesome Art: Has richly colored environments, appealing character designs, and unique attention to detail such as with the individual designs of Orochi's heads. It's no wonder why it served as the inspiration for the art directions of Samurai Jack, The Secret of Kells and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
  • Awesome Music: With a soundtrack by Akira Ifukube of Godzilla fame, this is to be expected. Some of the music in the battle with Orochi sounds very similar to themes from the Showa Godzilla films.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Despite its whimsical and cartoonish art style, it has terrifying moments.
    • The Fire God, is an intense figure who causes an entire village located near him to dry up from his presence and initially has the appearance of an angry demon face. He spews out flames from his mouth that take the shape of swords to skewer Susanoo with before deciding to turn into a humanoid form to best him. His fighting style includes turning his weapon from a sword to a spear to a scythe before opting to split himself to overwhelm with numbers and ultimately, attacking him in his pure flame form, striking from unexpected angels, nearly overwhelming Susanoo. It was fortunate that Akahana remembered Tsukiyomi's gift, an ice sphere that countered the Fire God's powers.
    • When Amaterasu enters the cave, the plants whether and die, causing the world to be shrouded in darkness. The elder remarks that if something weren't to be done to bring her back, the demons of darkness would overcome the world. It gives world-threatening tension to what was a simpler myth initially.
    • The appearance of the titular Eight-Headed Dragon, it is less of a traditional dragon and more of an otherworldly serpentine creature with unnatural heads and is pure evil with its black coloring and mix of red/white eyes. The build-up leading up to its appearance is foreboding with the earth shuddering, waves crashing down, and lighting crackling from its impending arrival. A dark collection of slithering figures slowly creep down the mountain and into the thicket with a pair of eight eyes glowing in the darkness before rising up.
    • It makes its presence known by its main pitch-black head turning completely red with yellow eyes as it burns away the briar thicket with a massive torrent of flame.
  • Narm: Akahana the rabbit's English dub voice sounds very similar to Mickey Mouse, as opposed to his cuter-sounding Japanese voice.
