• Alternate Character Interpretation: Rick is pretty much the villain of the movie, but this is primarily because he's Gary's frenemy. While Rich does leave Karen high and dry, she was there to tango as well. Mainly, Rick is just vastly more skilled in social matters and it's not his fault that Gary likes the same girl he does. Nor is it his fault that Karen prefers him over Gary.
