YMMV / The Hot Topic Krew

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Happens often for comedic effect, especially in the first arc. In the seventh chapter, Cia and Morgan run all the way to Canada to get away from a meme version of "Let it Go" and then shop in EB Games, reenacting a commercial of the store. This is of course never mentioned again.
  • Cargo Ship: Chrom has an extreme and almost romantic love of fish sticks, leading to them being jokingly shipped by readers.
  • Character Rerailment: Despite the porter confirming that the entire cast is out of character on purpose, in the final arc, Dark Pit and the other characters start to return back closer to their actual characterization in their respective media.
  • Crossover Ship: Although this is a fanfic of a crossover game, a lot of the ships involve characters that were never even in the same work together, such as Cia/Robin and Shadow/Shrek.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Despite Robin having sexual intercourse without obtaining S-rank, his feelings for Cia are actually genuine.
    • No matter how poorly Dark Pit treats his brother, Pit still cares for him.
  • I Knew It!: Some fans had already thought of Icarus as Kid Icarus from Captain N: The Game Master before he was officially revealed to be him.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Cloud Angelos may be a homophobic bully and a terrible person, but his father is emotionally and physically abusive.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Since the HTK is parody of almost every trollfic trope imaginable, it's going to mimic something along the lines of So Bad, It's Good, like the majority of trollfics. However, some readers argue that while it replicates and utilizes trollfic tropes very well, it isn't something too much to write home about. However, the final arc tends to vary from reader.
  • Take That, Scrappy!:
    • Mewtwo is a massive Hate Sink that is liked by no one, and he has his dick stolen, is launched into space, and is eventually killed violently by Cia.
    • Erebus’s death. He is one of the most despicable characters in the story, and readers cheered when he died.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Some of the more minor members of the Krew never got much development, such as Mr. Game and Watch.
    • The majority of the Resistance members were never fully developed.
