• Critical Dissonance: At the time of release, the film earned mixed reviews from critics who loved the music but were unimpressed by what they generally felt is a formulaic plot and the acting performance of Knowles. Audiences, however, responded more positively and it is often considered one of Knowles’ better movies amongst her devoted fan base the “Beyhive”. On Rotten Tomatoes, it scores a rotten 42% with critics but maintains a 66% with audiences, which counts as “Fresh” rating.
