The fastest and toughest race you'll ever run!
Jet Ion GP (Hresvelgr in Japan) is a PlayStation 2 racing game created by Gust Corporation. Taking place in the year 2040 in a world where cars are long forgotten, the player is taken to a world of futuristic racing where you take control of a ship and reach high speeds as you aim to reach for first place.

You go through 5 racetracks during each cup: Marinepark F.H, Comforest Viola, Woodstock Planes, Luminous Bay Area and Bramble Yard. The routes you take vary and there are several cups: Standard, Expert-B, Expert-A, Master-B, Master-A and Master-S: Completing each one nets you unlockables such as music, new ships and new tracks to race with.

Vs Mode allows you to play the game with a friend for that multiplayer action and even has a track exclusive to that mode. Time Trial allows you to race for the fastest time.

Tropes that apply to Jet Ion GP

The year is 2040 and cars are long forgotten. Gas prices had risen as the fossil fuels disappeared. Cold fusion, a process of harnessing the energy of smashing atoms, was discovered. Before humanity had known what it had found, the companies of the world decided to keep this knowledge to themselves. They constructed giant blue belts high above the ground that stretched across the country, out of reach.

True to human spirit, rebel groups formed, constructing makeshift planes that could fly up to the belts and suck off the energy, stealing it from the companies. As the companies learned of these rebels, they sent out their own craft to attack the rebels. In time, the art of stealing the fusion energy fuelled the stories of legends.

Jet Jevons was his name. With his band of Xenum rebels, Jet brought the companies to their knees, cutting off critical power belts and giving their power back to the government. In honour of Jet Jevons, teams of skilled pilots race among the power belts, reminding people of his courage.
— The game's back cover.
  • Bullet Time: Due to the game suffering from slowdown during races, this tends to happen unintentionally
  • Energy Weapon: One of the items in the game is a laser that deals 20 damage, but can only be used in "no-radio zones" of certain tracks. Xenum have a more powerful version called the "Gae Bolg" that can fire in a three spread
  • Excuse Plot: Despite the game's extensive lore, the plot never actually factors into the gameplay. In other words, race to victory!
  • Fireworksof Victory: Winning 1st place will have fire works on display.
  • Hidden Track: There are two music tracks in the game that can only be heard in the multiplayer exclusive tracks.
  • Hit Points: Your ship has a finite level of durability and you'll be forced to retire if it goes to 0.
  • Immune to Bullets: Lasers bounce off of the Velvet Works machine
  • Infinity +1 Sword: If you manage to defeat Primetime, you'll unlock their ship. The Sanctuary is the best ship in the entire game with the best stats.
  • Jack of All Stats: Forkner's craft stats reflect this
  • Levelin Reverse: The Expert Cup tracks are the Standard Tracks in reverse. You also do them again in Master-B and Master-A
  • Marathon Level: Expert-A and Master-A are basically the Expert-B and Master-B Cups except you have to do 6 laps instead of the Standard 3. Master-S tops them both by making you do 9 laps, though winning that one is totally worth it.
  • Market-Based Title: Jet Ion GP in Europe and Northern American regions compared to it's Japanese name Hresvelgr.
  • Mirror Match: The race against Caladrius can play out like this if you choose to use the Velvet Works ship to race against them. The game's manual mentions that each of the 5 courses has alternate routes on Standard, Expert and Master Cups.
  • Onlythe Worthy May Pass: To actually get started in each race during a Cup, you have to complete a lap quickly to prove that you qualify for the actual race itself. If you fail, you can retry until you pass.
  • Remixed Level: The Expert level courses are reversed versions of the Standard tracks often taking place at a different part of the day.
  • Sound Test: Completing the Standard Cup unlocks this which allows you to listen to the stage tracks, remixed versions (that play on Master-B and Master-A cups), two HiddenTracks for multiplayer track and a few others.
  • Superboss: After completing Master-A in 1st place, you can challenge Caladrius in Time Trial Mode. Defeating them allows you to then challenge Primetime and unlock their ship if you win.
  • Techno: The game's soundtrack is mostly a mix of this and Trance. It's even listed on the game's back cover as a selling point.
  • The Ghost: Jet Jevons and by extension all characters in the game's lore are never seen in person. The only exception is Edward Miller of Hecthor who was seen in the opening FMV.
  • The Heavy: Xenum have the bulkiest craft on the grid and have the most health in the game at 100
  • Time Trial: The game has a Time Trial mode where you seek to get the quickest time. You can't use items and you're the only racer there so do your best!
  • Tube Travel: The game's first course Marinepark F.H has you go through a tube at the beginning or end of the lap depending on which version of the track you play.
  • X Meets Y: This game can best be summed up as Star Fox in the style of F-Zero.
  • Updated Re-release: The version that Europe got is an improved version that fixes a lot of things in the game, known in Japan as Hresvelgr: International Edition.
