YMMV / The Despair in Our Stars

Go To

  • Crack Pairing: This is encouraged by the author, much like in its sister story. There are many, and this has even led to shipping Yuu Akimoto with himself...
  • Diagnosed by the Audience:
    • Mizore has a bizarre train of thought, and, although she seems to be always right about math, she gets to those answers in the strangest of ways. She also sometimes has difficulty speaking and understanding what others are telling her.
    • With LPoD and DiOS, it is clear that something is wrong with Shiro but the audience has not been given enough information as of yet. With his past with Einosuke, it is highly implied that Shiro suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

  • Gotta Ship 'Em All: Encouraged by the author, who is a crack Shipper herself and has led to many unusual ships.
  • Ho Yay: Enforced. Since the first motive divided the ship by gender, there's not much else to ship.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Many of the readers are fond of shipping Shiro with one of the girls.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • SPACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee Explanation
  • Shiro's harem Explanation
  • Daddy Shiro Explanation
    • Mommy Asuka
  • Evil ducks Explanation
  • Seina's stick Explanation
  • Natsuo Inukami Explanation
  • Mind Game Ship: The Master and Shiro.
  • Ship Mates: Since the fan base is still small, there hasn't been really any conflict concerning shipping, especially since many ship multiple characters.
  • Squick:
    • Hi, Kazuhiko! Didn't know your corpse got a part in the story!
    • All of the executions in the last chapter. Especially Sachiko's.
    • Whoever the person is in the epilogue, they had a horrible fate. All of their bones are visible, their eyes gouged out, and their skin turned into a liquidy paste.
