YMMV / The Cursed Heart

  • Disappointing Last Level: After the first 14 chapters of Book 2 were widely-liked, the last two (and the finale in particular) were considered to be disappointing to many. Reasons include Ella/Ellis' Immortality Curse being cured too quickly despite having so much potential, Jack's Heel–Face Turn being rushed (and undeserved to a lot of fans) after everything he did, Opulence being an Anti-Climax Boss, and the lack of a wedding between Ella/Ellis and Kieran in spite of all the buildup, all so that Book 2 can be wrapped up in 16 chapters like Book 1.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Leaf is widely beloved for being a Ridiculously Cute Critter with a fierce sense of loyalty to the Moon Court, her Awesome Ego, and the endearing way she talks in first person.
  • I Knew It!:
    • Players aren't surprised that Radiance is Kieran's Arch-Enemy due to them being the leader of the Sun Court while Kieran is the leader of the Moon Court, as well as their gender being dependent on Kieran's, which often indicates villainous characters.
    • Since the release of the blog for Book 2 which mentioned that someone will be killed off, players have correctly guessed that that someone would be Sir Montgomery due to him being the only other human among the main cast.
    • Players also aren't surprised that Opulence is working with Jack due to them avoiding every conflict between the courts and Jack's forces.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Jack was previously established as a bloodthirsty, vengeful villain who wanted to destroy the Courts by any means necessary. When he fatally stabbed Sir Montgomery Snow with little to no remorse, however, he became irredeemable in the eyes of many, especially since Sir Monty was a loyal and selfless knight who never hurt anyone.
  • More Interesting as a Villain: A surprising number of fans would have preferred it if Ella/Ellis had never had their Immortality Curse cured and they remained the powerful, yet corrupted person seen throughout Chapter 14 and the start of Chapter 15, citing this version of them as an Evil Is Cool Creepy Awesome Villain Protagonist after being a pushover for most of the series. Instead, however, the curse is cured almost as quickly as it happened and Ella/Ellis returns to their old self as if nothing happened to them.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Throughout Book 2 we're told of the injustices Jack faced at the hands of the courts and find out that he wanted the mortality cure to help his dying father. However, this doesn't make up for the numerous terrorist attacks he committed throughout the book or justify him killing Sir Monty. Many feel his redemption was completely undeserved, and a major factor in the last two chapters of the series being a letdown.
