YMMV / The Crew 2

Go To

  • Awesome Music: "No Good" by Kaleo in the announcement trailer, and "Fire" by Barns Courtney in the E3 2018 trailer.
  • Best Level Ever:
    • The Live events are large-scale races that have you switch between vehicle types at regular intervals along the track, rewarding you for the time you've invested into each one. Moreso for the finale, where you get to face off against each of your rivals one-on-one in sections using a vehicle in their respective families. A perfect way to end the season.
    • The post-release special events are no-slouch in their awesomeness. One of them is Miami Nights, where you drive a custom neon-striped Delorean DMC-12 with Synthwave background music and mood lighting. Winning the race will allow you to keep the car, no strings attached, and said car has a really high base performance level.
  • Contested Sequel: Among those who played both games, The Crew 2 has been contested on all fronts, with debates on whether the graphics, design, handling, and presentation have improved or worsened from the first game. What everyone agrees on, however, is that it wasn't a good decision for Ivory Tower to not include PvP at launch.
  • Critical Dissonance: The Crew 2 got mixed reception from critics, with some calling it a downgrade from the first game, but it got a somewhat warmer response from arcade racing game fans.
  • Demonic Spiders: In the Touring Car discipline, the AI driver Scott, has become infamous for being surprisingly challenging to race against on Ace difficulty, especially in one specific event, The Giants Chaebung Cup. The reason for this is because his car of choice, the Gallardo Super Trofeo, is one of the few cars running on an updated handling model compared to the rest of the cars in the discipline. This means unless you're also driving a Touring Car or Bike on the new handling model, you'll find it very hard to shake Scott off your tail throughout the entire race.
  • Funny Moments:
    • The game's randomly generated stores and signs. Anybody want some pizza pizza grilled pizza?
    • According to a one-star review of the Xbox One version of the game, it's possible for snow to appear in Miami and Los Angeles. Imagine Santa Monica beach-goers sunbathing on a snow-covered beach!
  • Game-Breaker:
    • Much like its predecessor, The Crew 2 does have vehicles in its disciplines that shine above the rest. So far, the definitive list of god-tier vehicles in each discipline includes:
      • Street Race: The Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 was a leaderboard topper starting from the Closed Beta of the game. The Ferrari F12berlinetta, BMW S1000RR, KTM X-Bow R, Ducati Panigale R, MV Agusta F4 RR, Audi RS5 Coupe, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, and Kawasaki Ninja H2 give it close competition. As of The Chase update, the current list of best Street Race cars consists of the Audi R8, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, MV Agusta Brutale Dragster, the aforementioned F4 RR and the 992-generation Porsche 911 Carrera 4S.
      • Hypercars: The Agera R and Regera, both manufactured by Koenigsegg, used to dominate Hypercar class due to their immense levels of acceleration and top speed out of the box in comparison to the other cars in their class. As of late, they were also challenged by the Bugatti Chiron, before being toppled definitely by the Lamborghini Egoista in the Hot Shots update.
      • Powerboat: The Proto Offshore Mk1, which, funnily enough, is your free starting vehicle upon joining the Pro Racing family. The Frauscher 1414 Demon is its closest rival.
      • Touring Car: The Maserati MC12 Corsa, Pagani Zonda R and Saleen S7R make up the power trio of this class due to having superior handling over the rest of their class. As of The Agency update, the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo, Ferrari 599XX Evo, Porsche 935 "Baby" and Renault R.S.01 now dominate the class due to being on an updated handling model.
      • Alpha Grand Prix: Despite this class being made up of only five cars (two at launch), the Proto Alpha Mark X introduced in the Inner Drive update is the most dominant car in the class due to the insane amount of grip and cornering speed it carries through the corners by virtue of being on a newer handling model. Prior to this, the Proto Alpha Mark II was the best Alpha GP car, beating the 2017 and 2018 Red Bull F1 cars by a considerable margin.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • The inability to change characters or even erase game data despite pretty much any other Ubisoft games allow to do that. Ivory Tower, as represented by Ubisoft, said it was because to "maintain game data integrity", which fell flat due to pretty much any other games even Ubisoft's own allow to change characters or even erase profile progression.
    • The complete lack of event route editor compared to its direct competitor Forza Horizon series starting from the fourth game. The final major update released in July 2023, American Legends part 2, finally added a Level Editor, but some people see it as too little, too late.
  • Spiritual Adaptation:
    • With surprisingly robust car customization and the variety of events, especially for cars, the game can sate the appetite of Need for Speed fans who feel let down by recent entries. The fact that they game still manages to be updated to this day even after having fallen into relative obscurity might also be welcomed by NFS fans who have complained about recent entries receiving limited updates (most infamously Heat, who was released mere months before EA removed its developer Ghost Games as the franchise's developer, essentially leaving the game as abandonware in record time).
    • The large map, freedom of progression and large selection of vehicle types can also appeal to those thirsting for a new Midnight Club entry.
    • It can also be seen as a far less violent Grand Theft Auto, considering that it's a Wide-Open Sandbox involving an abridged version of United States' major cities and landmarks, but here instead of killing, stealing, robbing, and occasionally racing, you're here just racing and earning the clean way.
  • Spiritual Successor: Like its predecessor, it's one to Test Drive Unlimited, as Ivory Tower, the developer, was established by ex-Eden Games (developers of TDU) staff. Even more so as the game's story has changed from a The Fast and the Furious style Wunza Plot with sports cars, into a To Be a Master in auto racing.
  • Win Back the Crowd: This was Ivory Tower's attempt to do so after the lukewarm reception of the first game. The consensus is decidedly mixed, mainly because of Ivory Tower's insistence to add piecemeal content regularly instead of fixing existing issues.
