YMMV / The Choices That Make Us

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor:
    • Orion and Walburga Black may get an Alas, Poor Villain ending, but Bellatrix having dementors haunt her parents' house is very satisfying after chapters of watching their rampant bigotry and unloving abuse of their daughters.
    • After the Daily Prophet spent much of the series being a source of toadying Malicious Slander (and doing worse in this universe), Harry having Luna write up a story about their many misdeeds feels long overdue. Seeing Rita Skeeter serving a six-year sentence in Azkaban (even if she is being scapegoated while her fellow perverters of the truth go free) might add to this feeling.
  • One-Scene Wonder:
    • Mr. Goyle is one of the most memorable parts of the one chapter he appears in due to the comedic yet slightly poignant scene where he complains about how the spell he cast to make his mansion look like a haunted graveyard was meant to ensure his privacy but ended up attracting paranormal enthusiasts and a parish council development project looking for uninhabited land to build over.
    • Irma Prince only has a few scenes. Still, her The Dog Bites Back revenge against her abusive father and brother and her relationship with Severus, which is closer than it looks at first glance, make her a popular character.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Lucius's older brother Arvis is Draco's godfather, is sorted into Ravenclaw, and is uncomfortable with a lot of things about Voldemort, but he only has one or two scenes and is absent from moments like the older Black Cousins' school days and Draco's life after the war when visits from his godfather might have meant a lot.
