YMMV / The Adventures of Jaina

Go To

  • Fridge Horror: Sliske's experiment. Jaina was unconscious and at his mercy the whole time, and he not only infused her with the residual energies of a dead god, he also cut her open to implant some kind of magical object to keep it from dissipating. He may have acknowledged that Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil, but just what else might he have done to her?
  • Growing the Beard: The later stories in the series are a noticeable improvement over the older ones, generally being more creative and having more natural writing.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • In "Growing Pains," Sliske physically attacks Jaina in a fit of anger for saying she doesn’t ever want him near her children. Several months after the time the fic was written, the quest Kindred Spirits was released, which has a scene where Sliske violently beats the World Guardian in a fit of rage.
    • Azra and Dastan become this when you consider Azzanadra's reaction to Moia (another Mahjarrat-human hybrid) in canon, as seen in Sliske's Endgame. Namely, being horrified and repulsed when he learns of her heritage, declaring her an abomination and believing she should be killed.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Xenia in "Gathering Secrets" suggests that Jaina better find someone to give her a Traumatic C-Section and prepare for a Death by Childbirth. Meanwhile, the readers don’t believe for one second that the main character will be killed off.
    • In-universe, Sir Owen even says that he’s sure that Zaros will intervene and keep her alive for whatever “nefarious plans” he may have for her.
  • Squick: The forced attraction that Zaros and Seren have in one another’s presence. Jaina finds it horrifying, and even pities Zaros for how he’s forced to love his sister.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Zamorak (and by extension Moia) resorting to kidnapping and possible child murder to coerce Jaina to go along with the Stone heist. (Canonically, the Player Character simply willingly agrees regardless of alignment.)
