YMMV / Tame Impala

Go To

  • Memetic Mutation: “Nangs”
    • By the way did you know “Tame Impala is actually one guy?”
  • Signature Song: "The Less I Know the Better", which is easily their most recognizable song (particularly for its bassline, actually a guitar run through an octave pedal), and is also known for its trippy and fairly NSFW music video.
    • For songs released prior to Currents, either "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" or "Elephant".
  • Tear Jerker: While a good portion of Tame Impala's songs deal with bad experiences, 'Mind Mischief' (a hopeless romantic played by the girl he loves) and 'Why Won't They Talk To Me?' (someone's friends turning on them) are two of the worst.
    • 'Posthumous Forgiveness' on The Slow Rush. The first half is a son confronting his anger for his father in the wake of his death. But in the second half, enough time has passed that the son's anger for his father has been eclipsed by how much he misses him.
  • Vindicated by History: Currents received a polarizing reception among fans when it was first released, mainly due to the album switching from a psychedelic-rock sound to a poppier synthpop/disco style. Over the years, however, it has become a major fan favorite, with the album's singles slowly becoming the band's most popular songs.
