YMMV / TB Skyen

Go To

  • Cargo Ship: Skyen meeting the Greatsword in Dark Souls II is charming, and perhaps a little disturbing. He later has the exact same reaction upon finding Havel's Set and Shield in the Gutter. And again when he finally acquires the Fume Ultra Greatsword. And one last time when he realizes he can power-stance the Smelter Sword and the Aged Smelter Sword together. In fact, this is his reaction to acquiring nearly any Ultra Greatsword throughout the entirety of Dark Souls II.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Early in his Dark Souls series, he spends a long while stuck fighting the Bell Gargoyles until after two videos worth of attempts, he finally manages to overcome them and win. After taking a moment to compose himself he declares he "gets it now" and admits how satisfying it was to finally overcome that challenge. Moving forward he shows himself enjoying the game a lot more.
    • His increasing in-game engagement with the community over the course of his Dark Souls II playthrough, starting with him summoning an ally who happened to be in the chat to help with a difficult section of the Lost Bastille, and evolving from there until he was summoning in two or three chat regulars at once to have fun and refight the Fume Knight.
    • Before doing his reading of Aldia and Nashandra's character design, he takes a moment to discuss the Emerald Herald, Shanalotte, seeing her as someone who was created by Aldia and Vendrick to cure the curse of undeath and ultimately did so not through violence or power or seeking glory herself, as was no doubt her creators' intention, but through kindness, by helping the bearer of the curse along on their mission. Skyen admits that he likes the idea that, in a series of games where most characters are defined by the violence they enact, Shanalotte accomplished what no one else had simply by reaching out a hand in kindness to someone who needed it. As for her character design itself?
Skyen: [softly] She's cute, and I like her.
    • When Skyen initially encounters Kenneth Haight, he's rather dismissive of him as just another pompous lord, and refuses to swear fealty. A few episodes later, he goes back to talk to him again, and changes tone to be more friendly, calling him "buddy" and even agreeing to swear fealty.
    • At the start of his Hazbin Hotel reaction, Skyen talks about how he's been avoiding the show cause of the artstyle and is a bit critical, but wants to give it a shot. Just before he starts the video, he speculates that they might end up watching the whole show at once if he becomes a fan, and thinks that'd be fun. Really shows the kind of open-minded guy he is that he thinks liking something he was critical of is fun.
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • Skyen, despite often talking down on his own skill in the game, demonstrates that he is a truly good Dark Souls II player when he defeats the Fume Knight Raime - almost universally considered the hardest boss in the game - on his second try. What more, the battle, unintentionally, plays out as a Mirror Match, as Skyen and Raime both have the exact same loadout (heavy armor, straightsword and ultra greatsword, before discarding the straightsword halfway through), making it feel truly like an epic battle between two skiled warriors.
    • Skyen pulls off the mother of all Bond One Liners in his battle with Nashandra. Throuhgout the battle, he remarks on how Nashandra's design - black dress with bones and skulls decorating it, wielding a scythe - is evocative of The Grim Reaper. So, just as he deals the finishing blow, he quotes the father of Cosmic Horror; With strange aeons, even Death may die.
  • Tear Jerker: Already an infamously sad moment for most Dark Souls players, Skyen finding Solaire possessed by the Sunlight Maggot in the depths of Lost Izalith and being forced to reluctantly put him down is rendered heartbreaking by the grief in Skyen's voice as he futilely pleads with Solaire not to make him destroy him, the sad piano music he adds over the top, and the flashes of still images from the many things the two of them had gone through together with every blow of Solaire's sword.
