• Adaptation Displacement: Raise your hands if you know that this is based on an obscure children's book.
• Fandom Rivalry: A rivalry with the PBS Kids show: Pinkalicious & Peterrific. Fans of Sunny put Pinkalicious in their playlist of shows that they're not excited for, while fans of Pinkalicious detract Sunny, calling it yet another Nick Jr cash grab, and that their show will be better.
• Ho Yay: With the show's focus on three girls who are very close friends, this is unavoidable. Some examples include:
  • We have "Stick With Me", where Rox and Blair get stuck together with Sunny's super stick hair spray. Their arguing is more playful and harmless, like a married couple. After finding their rhythm, they're constantly complimenting each other. When they're freed, they attempt to hold onto each other again despite not needing to anymore.
  • In "Style Swap", Blair is absolutely Gaga over the pop star Mandy, with all her fawning over her. When the two of them switch places, Rox is in shock over how great they impersonate each other.
• Memetic Mutation: When the show was renewed for a season 2, it was revealed that Alan Denton, the head writer for Sonic Boom, (an extremely self aware show), will be the head writer for season 2 of Sunny. Now people are making jokes about how the show will break the fourth wall in practically every episode in season 2.
• Moe: All three girls and Doodle look very adorable.
• Older Than the Demographic: It's aimed at the 5-and-under crowd but its protagonists are 10, though they look and act like teenagers.
