YMMV / Strangetown, Here We Come

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Chapter 23.5 is told from the perspectives of the Grunt family's fishes.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Frances.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Lots, including the first kisses of Buck/Jill and Beau/Frances.
    • Zoe waiting by Jaxy's bed when she's in the hospital after an accidental overdose. It's especially touching because until then, Jaxy thought that Zoe was cheating on her with a man. Zoe then sets her straight.
    • All of Nervous and Pascal's interactions.
    • The end of Chapter 25: Johnny, Ripp, and Ophelia all sharing a bed.
  • Homoerotic Subtext: Outrageous amounts between Ripp and Johnny.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: General Buzz Grunt, Tank Grunt and the military are distrustful of aliens, but the fact is that the aliens abduct people and impregnate the males. Sure, they have a good reason, but do you really blame Simkind for distrusting them?
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his failures as a dad, Buzz Grunt legitimately cared about his boys deep down. He made a well-meaning attempt at reconciliating with Ripp and his last words to Olive were to leave his boys alone.
    • Let's just try and come up with a few examples, shall we? Well, we have Ripp hearing that full aliens are intersex and so becoming abnormally curious about whether Johnny is the same, Ripp listening to Johnny and Ophelia have sex through the walls, Johnny washing Ripp in the bath after he has a fight with Tank, Johnny fighting Ripp to the ground and then straddling him and leaning in quite close after finding out that Ripp and Ophelia have kissed, Johnny requesting that Ophelia kiss him the way she kissed Ripp, Ripp tearfully telling Johnny that he loves him after making out with Frances while drunk, Johnny watching Ripp having sex with Ophelia and noting that seeing him in action was 'sublime', Ripp's apparent desire to have a threesome with Johnny and Ophelia and joy at being able to sleep in the same bed with both... And these are just some of the more obvious examples.
    • Ultimately, Ripp's interest in Johnny becomes canon, but whether or not Johnny felt the same way is yet to be resolved.
  • Tear Jerker: General Buzz Grunt wanted to help fix his relationship with his sons by organizing a supper and presenting his new girlfriend to them. It ended with some harsh words and Ripp storming out of the house. A few days later and the General ends up murdered by Olive Specter without ever reconciliating with his boys.
    • Many scenes in Chapter 36, especially Johnny deciding to leave with the aliens without being able to say goodbye to Ripp, and his goodbye to Ophelia.
  • One True Threesome: Johnny/Ophelia/Ripp.
  • Schedule Slip: There weren't any new chapters of the story from March 2010 to November 2012, when strange_tomato wrote a short Interquel about Beau Broke and Francis Worthington. There was then another hiatus between June 2013 and September 2014.
  • The Woobie: Frances and Nervous.
    • Ripp was a temporary one after his dad went missing, though he was probably the jerkass variety.
