- Fridge Logic:
- The real-life Elizabeth Báthory lived in the 16th century Hungary, but in the movie, she had a mansion in North America and her resting place is over there.
- Considering the major plot point of the movie being the characters get killed if their in-game character is killed, why did Frankie Muniz's character avoid being killed despite his in-game character dying?
- This one actually has somewhat of an answer; Swink was in a rose bush, and according to the game, and October, “the undead can’t cross the twig of a wild rose”.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Left 4 Dead 2 takes place in a very similar Bayou area that the game in the movie does.
- Memetic Mutation: "If you die in the game, you die for real!" Thanks in part to Game Grumps.
- Moment of Awesome: When Swink gets attacked by Elizabeth before he dies in the game, then when he seems like he's dead, he comes back to save the day.
- Narm: Apparently, the director of this movie considers Frankie Muniz's face to be scary enough to introduce him via a Jump Scare. Complete with Scare Chord.
- Nightmare Retardant:
- The overreliance toward Gory Discretion Shot for the theatrical and standard home video versions makes the death scenes predictable as of the second victim. Arguably the (in-universe) in-game death scenes are much scarier than any of the onscreen deaths.
- The fact that more than half of the movie is set at daytime fails to make it scary, even when taking Scenery Dissonance into account.
- Questionable Casting: Frankie Muniz was an unlikely choice of casting for a character in a horror movie.
- So Bad, It's Good: The film is pretty much a video game Creepypasta as a movie. A bad video game Creepypasta. Did this movie motivate any feeling other than drunken laughter or Dull Surprise to anyone who ever watched it?
