YMMV / Spaced Invaders

Go To

  • Fridge Horror: The Martians have access to massive spaceships, energy-based weaponry, and suicide bombs which could vaporize a planet. And they're our neighbors!
    • The main Martian characters are four knuckleheads (and Blaznee) puttering around the asteroids completely unchecked and carrying around technology that could devastate planets like Earth. What got them stuck on such a worthless duty that they jump on the idea of invading Earth, and did it involve the same batshit insane antics with their equipment that they displayed in the movie?
    • Numerous times, Pez and Ziplock are arguing over putting their weaponry together. With how powerful these weapons are, they are lucky that their heat ray didn't catastrophically backfire on them or that their "Donut of Destruction" didn't go off.
    • Pez shot something called a "heat-seeking Annihilator" in a station wagon. What would have happened if the window hadn't been open?
    • Vern is gone. The dialogue between the Verndroid and Captain Bipto suggests that whatever process Bipto used to convert Vern is irreversible, meaning that Russel's brother died when Bipto converted him.
    • The number of skeletons on the floor of the command ship before it blows up indicates that the Enforcer Drone had actually been busy! Just how much incompetence sets them off?
    • The Arcturans laid out a hilariously one-sided beatdown on an entire Martian fleet using those weapons competently. Odds are they're REALLY pissed at the Sol system right now...
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Short, green, hyperactive, loudmouthed aliens try to take over Earth, aided by a useless robot. Why does that sound so familiar?
    • One of the Martians even sounds like Zim.
  • Narm: By the end of the movie, the Enforcer Drone's menacing qualities and sinister plan to kill the Martians once they reach space comes across as ridiculous in light of the fact that his idiot charges have put him through hell just to do his job. Some of the more serious parts of the movie also come across as this due to the cartoonish way the Martians react to things.
  • Narm Charm
  • Nightmare Fuel: The charred remains of the Martian after the Enforcer Drone in the beginning shoot him. It actually hovers in place for a moment before clattering to the floor! In addition, there are more charred skeletons on the floor before the command ship blows up.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Kathy is played by Ariana Richards, better known as Mindy in the Tremors or, better still, Lex from Jurassic Park.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The opening credits theme is a (pretty subpar) riff on Mars: The Bringer of War. Which is strange, as The Planets are public domain.
