• Alternate Character Interpretation: Is Vance Turbo actually a slacker and snarking Jerkass or The Paragon who hides it behind being a Knight in Sour Armor. Notably, his attempt to blackmail his superiors at Space Academy were driven by the belief he was insufficiently punished for getting a friend killed. He also attempts to live up to the Community's values even against much more experienced officers.
• Cargo Ship: Vance Turbo is stalked by the AI of his starship, Trish, who even goes so far to get herself a Sex Bot body in order to seduce him.
• Fan-Preferred Couple: Vance is notably favored to be with Trish rather than Leah or Hannah.
• The Woobie: Vance, despite his appearances, actually is this with the fact he seems to be Only Sane Man trying to run a ship of lunatics and misfits. His parents were disgraces, he was orphaned early on, and effectively raised by an AI butler because his aunt didn't have time for him. He also struggles to do the right thing in the face of a system designed to go with the expedient realpolitic method.
