• Jerkass Woobie: Karai has been raised her entire life thinking that her own mother hated her so much for being Saki's daughter that she would rather have killed them both in a fire rather than live with the shame. Combine this with the type of parenting you would expect from someone like the Shredder and you've got someone who thinks that the only way for Master Shard to prove to her that she actually does care about her is to let April die of poisoning.
• Tear Jerker: When Donnie questions why Master Shard lets the Turtles face such harrowing dangers daily without her in "Seeds", she assures him that it is because she wants to make sure that her sons are self-sufficient enough by the time she is gone. It is here that Donnie realizes what she is implying; Shard's cat-DNA is causing her to age at a rate higher than a normal humans and could die of old age (if even that) sooner rather than later. He offers to try and make retro-mutagen to make her human again, only for her to decline on the grounds that she would be of more use to them as a strong mutant than a meek old lady, having made peace with this hard truth long before he found out.
