  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Bert and Ernie are two of the most popular Muppet characters in the country, and have been shown in locally-produced sketches alongside dubbed ones from the original show.
  • Periphery Demographic: As with many Sesame Workshop shows.
  • Squick: During the 1970s, when the show was just a German-dubbed version of Sesame Street and not its own thing, there was an infamous film where the unconcealed birth of a human baby was shown.
  • Woolseyism/Superlative Dubbing: Interestingly, from the show's inception through the late-1970s to the mid-1990s, the majority of dubbed songs from the American show didn't just have the dialogue translated, but also had the entire tune changed! Some weren't that different from the American versions (for instance, the German version of "I Love Trash"), some at least evoked the original while still going in a different direction (the rather beautiful German version of "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon"), and some just kind of go and do their own thing (for whatever reason, the '80s rock-inflected "Monster in the Mirror" winds up sounding like this). Most of them sound wonderful, occasionally even better than the American versions, however, the great irony is that the American song that has arguably become the most popular in Germany, "Rubber Duckie" (known in German as "Quietscheentchen"), kept its original tune.
