YMMV / Sengoku (SNK)

Go To

  • Contested Sequel: While many players consider Sengoku 3 to be a Surprisingly Improved Sequel due to its very free-form combo system and impressive graphics and sound, others are less impressed by Fake Difficulty elements and how bloated the game can feel. The enemies are especially durable for a beat-em-up, they have annoyingly lengthy death animations, and casual play can take about 90 minutes as a result, and that's not getting into the fact that even Final Fight has more enemy variety than Sengoku 3, making the game feel more repetitive than it should be. The game length can be mitigated by learning the most optimal damage per second combos to perform, which comes with its own problems.
  • Low-Tier Letdown: The dog transformation in the first two games is generally considered to be the weakest of all three, being easily beaten up by enemies.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus of the first two games. Despite introducing some interesting elements such as transformations and stage wrapping, they are let down by their unspectacular graphics and animation, bland music, and cumbersome gameplay elements such as the lack of a combo system and enemies that die in one hit, making the gameplay incredibly repetitive.
  • Spiritual Successor: Sengoku 3 can be considered one to Noise Factory's earlier Gaia Crusaders, with both beat-em-ups featuring East Asian mythological creatures invading the modern world, as the protagonists travel the world to fight them in multiple exotic locales.
