• LGBT Fanbase: A huge reason why this season, and Sailor Moon in general, became so popular with the LGBT community was it's positive portrayal of Sailors Uranus and Neptune. The two Outers were written as three dimensional characters with sympathetic goals while also having a healthy and inspirational relationship.
• Memetic Mutation: Uranus and Neptune are "Cousins".^Explanation The Cloverway Dub infamously censored Haruka and Michuru's lesbian relationship, insistently referring to them as "cousins" to avoid any homoerotic subtext, only to ironically end up with incestuous context instead, which is arguably even more controversial. Of course, the fandom absolutely ran with the joke.
• Overshadowed by Controversy: Thanks to the notorious censorship in the first English dub, Sailor Moon S is also remembered for the insistence of Uranus and Neptune being "Cousins" and looms large over this season, and frankly over the entire show to this very day.
• Tough Act to Follow: This season is regarded as one of the best Sailor Moon seasons for its thematic writing and use of mature themes. The Lighter and Softer Super S would be considered a downgrade after everything that happened in S while Stars would receive a mixed-to-positive reception.
