YMMV / Saiko Rocks

Go To

  • Cry for the Devil: As terrible as Senbo and Aibo's actions were, the heavy focus on their break-up and separation in the last chapter reminds us that at the end of the day, they were just two dumb teenagers in love who failed to fully grasp the seriousness and consequences of their actions.
  • Fanfic Fuel: The story mentions how Tari saved some baby animals from some poachers on her vacation, but doesn't really expand on it.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • The fact that Axol and Terrance appear as characters in the story is bittersweet, considering they both die in the Genesis and Revelations Arcs, respectively.
    • Lamar, Sofia, and Masa show up at the end of the story with Tari, happy that she's alive. This wouldn't be the case in Meta Runner, where they don't get to reunite with her and believe she's well and truly dead.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Saiko hugs Tari in Chapter 13 and an Imagine Spot in Chapter 8, something she hasn't done in the series. That would change almost a year later in "Mario meets a demon and is shortly beheaded", where we finally see Saiko hugging Tari for real (albeit in a Group Hug with Luigi).
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • In Chapter 3, Shroomy's suggestion to play "Never Gonna Give You Up" for the wedding was met with groans from the other band members, including Meggy. Two months later, one of Meggy's streams would open with her singing that very song.
    • Saiko has to deal with a Dreadful Musician trespassing on her property to play her guitar without her permission... which Mario basically does in the ad skit for "If Mario Was The Last Man On Earth" almost a year later. Similarly, Mario would annoy Saiko with sound effects while she's trying to play her guitar in "If Mario Was In... Simulator Games", something the author noted on his Twitter profile.
    • Chapter 11 ends up predicting part of Dr. Sheridan's plan in Meta Runner, to some extent. An offscreen encounter with the villain mentions that he used mind control technology on Tari to make her comply with being experimented on. Then it turns out in Season 3 that Sheridan really does have mind control technology. Also, Saiko chokes out Sheridan in said encounter, which Masa and Marco would do to him in episodes 27 and 28, respectively.
  • Les Yay: Saiko in general seems much more affectionate around Tari than in canon SMG4, openly showing notable concern for her well-being. She was even willing to hug Tari when they reunite in Chapter 13, an act that, at that point, had yet to materialize in the bloopers beyond Tari surprise-hugging Saiko once.
