YMMV / Sabretooth (2022)

• Character Rerailment: The comic goes to great lengths to undo Sabretooth's Villain Decay that he's suffered ever since the infamous Austean X-Men run and bring him back in line with how writers like Chris Claremont wrote him; a dangerous, cunning, and terrifying Genius Bruiser and Knight of Cerebus who inspires fear in many and can concoct shockingly complex gambits to achieve his goals.
  • Though this is still debatable since the series did have Creed being easily ambushed & taken down by Mystique which never would have happened with the 90's version of the character who had beaten down & almost killed Mystique on numerous occasions.
• Nightmare Fuel: Sabretooth is at his scariest here, transforming his Mental World into his own personal Hell to rule over as a Devil and imagining terrifying dreams of him slaughtering the X-Men over and over in increasingly sadistic and brutal ways to pass the time.
• Rooting for the Empire: Some readers find it very hard to not root for Sabretooth to burn down the Quiet Council after this and other comics in Destiny Of X have really driven home just deeply corrupt, amoral, hypocritical, and frankly bad at their jobs they are aside from a select few like Nightcrawler.
• Spiritual Successor: To Hellions, both feature a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits who were condemned by Krakoa, with a manipulative Hate Sink Villain Protagonist as The Leader, a lancer who acts more like The Hero and the team more happily follows. Both are heavily deconstructive of Krakoa and The Quiet Council's leadership. Both give rarely used C-List villains much needed Character Development and Hidden Depths and eventually Nanny and Orphan-Maker even join the main cast.
• The Woobie: Pretty much all of the mutants condemned to the Pit except Sabretooth himself. As observed by Third Eye, they're all really guilty of nothing but daring to point out problems in Krakoan society and think for themselves instead of slavishly following the Quiet Council, and their reward is being condemned to Sabretooth's Hell.
