YMMV / Red Daughter of Krypton

Go To

  • And You Thought It Would Fail: Initially. When DC announced that Supergirl would join the Red Lanterns, Kara's fans were broken: most of them thought "Red Daughter" was still another attempt to turn a heroic, mostly good character into a Darker and Edgier version. Some of them suggested that Supergirl had been so mishandled since the New 52 relaunch that maybe she needed to hit rock bottom before rising once and for all. After the story was over, though, most of them judged that this arc was an excellent story where Kara explored her darkest side and became a better person and hero in the process.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: After Supergirl and later Guy Gardner left the Red Lantern Corps, Bleez, Skallox... became Atrocitus' puppets again. Kara and Guy were truly the Morality Chain of the Red Lanterns.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Kara is short-tempered and often irrational but since she was fifteen her life has been defined by tragedy and loss.
  • Misaimed Fandom: Supergirl becoming a Red Lantern after a severe breakdown is in no way treated as a positive change but as a sign that Kara Zor-El had severe psychological issues dragging her down which she needed to overcome. Nonetheless, a number of fans chose to focus on how badass she looked, complained when she left the team, and later demanded a Red Lantern arc in her live-action show.
