YMMV / Pyrocynical

Go To

  • Broken Base:
    • Pyro allowed several of his friends (that had their own YouTube accounts) to take over the channel when he went on hiatus in the summer of 2016. This divided many viewers from wanting to watch another Pyrocynical video, to finding the people that took over boring and without any personality. Eventually, it led to Pyro having to block many viewers that gave negative comments, and the rest tried to blame each other for being insensitive.
    • MY EXPERIENCE WITH KEEMSTAR, and mostly the entire situation with Keemstar. Viewers were divided into supporting either side, despite Keemstar willingly sending a Flame War to Pyro, and found Pyro to be whiny as well as trying to blame someone else for sticking his nose in on Keem's news reports. Meanwhile, viewers that hated Keemstar in the first place supported Pyro and campaigned to end Keem's YouTube career.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Pyro has a love for this kind of humor, especially in his commentary videos. It also pops up in his gameplay videos with his love of Video Game Cruelty Potential often produces these moments. Not at all helped by him frequently superimposing the same effects he used in his MLG compilations.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Pyro getting Kanye Fucking West to follow him on Twitter. It didn't exactly last (he'd get suspended a few months later), but still.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: A number of fans desperately clamor for Pyro to show off his adorable pet rabbit Blue in another video. Footage of him has been scarce since 2017.
  • Fandom Rivalry: His fandom tends to butt heads with a lot of others, thanks to Pyro's habit of mocking all sorts of people, media and many more. note
    • Most notably is how, Pyrocynical's fans are against LeafyIsHere fans. Pyro lampshades this by referring to comments that say he's a clone of Leafy or is trying to be better than Leafy. With Leafy having now seemingly disappeared from the internet, this has died down. Until...
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Earlier videos have Pyro replaced copyrighted music in clips with copyright-free ones in order to not get demonetized. As of July 2019, unfortunately, Sony Music Entertainment holds the copyright of Beachwalk, which is Pyro's iconic outro music, meaning that almost all of his videos are fully demonetized unless he edited it out.
    • In his “Five Nights at Postal” video, uploaded in March of 2016, there’s a scene in which he shoots up a gay bar. (He didn’t actually seem to know it was a gay bar, he was just freaked out by the man in the gimp suit's bare ass.) Flash forward a couple months to June, when Omar Mateen shoots up the Pulse gay bar in Orlando, Florida in an act of terrorism, killing 49 people and wounding 53.
    • This animation was created by Hyojin Choi, clearly meant as a means of professing her love to Pyro as they had been dating for a few years at that point. Come 2022, Choi had been exposed for abusing another partner of hers in addition to having a history of manipulating others in the community, possibly including Pyro.
    • The Iron Lung analysis, uploaded in 2022, features a visual gag involving the OceanGate Titan submarine. Almost exactly a year later, that submarine would implode on an expedition to the Titanic's wreckage, killing all aboard and drawing several comparisons to the events depicted in Iron Lung itself.
    • The Cruelty Squad video features H.Bomberguy and Internet Historian among its ensemble of voice cameos. Come December 2023, 5 months after that came out, Harry released "Plagiarism and You(Tube)", which has IH's "Man in Cave" video as one of its subjects early on due to it heavily plagiarizing from Lucas Reilly's Mental Floss article on Floyd Collins. Ouch.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • After coming away from YouTube Rewind 2017 feeling thoroughly disgusted, Pyro took it upon himself to create his own Rewind, featuring some of his favourite clips he had seen over the last year. Seeing him show this much appreciation for some of his favourite creators (including h3h3productions, Internet Comment Etiquette, videogamedunkey and I Hate Everything) can definitely make some people go "d'aww..." especially considering the current YouTube climate.
    • "let etika rest", a more serious-toned video in which Niall calls out ImJayStation and N&A Productions for exploiting Etika's death for their own personal gain. If you truly deserve to be called out for something horrible, Niall will not hold back.
      • On a related note that crosses over into Moment of Awesome, when Niall heard the news he made a post on his Instagram story telling Michael McCrudden to "stay the fuck away from this" and not make a "Before They Were Gone" video on Etika. To his surprise, Michael listened and didn't make the video.
      • He also makes sure to give his condolences to Etika's family and friends, and ends the video with this:
"Rest in peace Etika. Joycon Boys for life."
    • When Sony launched copyright claims against Pyro in 2019 for using Beachwalk (which includes samples from an old French song they hold the rights to) and forced him to stop using his iconic outro song, Whitewoods posted a video on their channel abhorring Sony's actions, thanking Pyro for making the song as popular as it is and stating that they wished they could let him use it for as long as he wanted.
  • Memetic Mutation: He's a very quotable man and the fandom likes to joke with him or on him.
    • So guys, we did it. We've reached a quarter of a million subscribers.Explanation
    • NFKRZ's screaming when he's playing video games.
    • "Don't call me fat, 'cause you're fat too, bitch."
    • "A small loan of a million dollars..."
    • The hatred for the royalty-free ukulele music picked up quite a bit of traction, and has even been referred to in comments on other YouTube videos; NFKRZ has even mentioned it a few times.
    • Skin Insanity, otherwise known as spending all your money and your parent's credit cards to get every skin in Counter-Strike, and by extension all other videogames.
    • "I'll have two number nines, A number nine large..."
    • Can we stop throwin *censor* cuz everyone's gonna go home.
    • WHOAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
    • "Who is this cute little lesbian...?"Explanation
    • Pretty much he and Leafy are the reasons the term "cancer" and Minecraft's Take That! are so prevalent on the internet.
    • "Pyrocynical bullies children"Explanation
      • Bullying Pyrocynical.Explanation
    • Game-end.Explanation
    • WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARTExplanation
    • "My father's in prison." is a common Running Gag in his videos that has become pretty memetic for his fandom as well.
    • The song "Despacito" was one for a while on his channel, endlessly tweeting about it and how he wanted to hear a sequel to the song.
    • Petscop 2Explanation
    • Pyro CarExplanation
    • Lesbian cosplayer. Explanation
    • "X is worse than you can imagine" / "The best x you've never y" Explanation
    • It Was All In Le HeadExplanation
    • Huge X DramaExplanation
    • Group hallucinationsExplanation
  • Narm Charm: Invoked. Hearing ridiculously stupid dialogue in a game or a video tends to make Pyro break into madder laughter than he does when reading idiotic comments, most infamously the usage of game-end as a euphemism for kill in a Fortnite short film, and it can help make something rather cringeworthy more bearable.
  • Popular with Furries: Considering the fact that the avatar that he used a while back before his face reveal was either just Mordecai or Foxy The Pirate Fox before it ended up evolving into its own thing. Many furry fans of his immediately fell in love with it. In fact, even after his face reveal many fan arts of him still usually just draw his avatar rather than real life appearance. This gets lampshaded in his "Fidget Spinners have hit a new low" where Pyro showcases a fanart by an artist who drew him because they only like his fursona's object-head, but not his channel. Which gets him a bit riled up (for laughs most likely).
