  • Follow the Leader: In 2014, the Hallmark Channel debuted a "Kitten Bowl".
    • Also in 2014, NatGeo Wild debuted with a Fish Bowl.
    • Animal Planet ended up following itself in 2018 by introducing the Dog Bowl (featuring older dogs) in association with the Puppy Bowl.
      • It should be noted in all cases that Tropes Are Not Bad though. Kittens are cute, fish are cute, and older dogs are cute (and the whole point of these shows is to promote adopting animals from shelters, so it's not like it's a bad thing that there are imitators).
  • Moment of Awesome: Puppy Bowl XVII had seventy puppies playing, and twenty kittens for the halftime show. All were adopted by the time the show aired.
  • The Scrappy:
    • Sideline reporter Jill Rappaport, from NBC's Today show, introduced during Puppy Bowl VIII. Kept popping up to talk, thus interrupting the puppy play. While she was removed after that for a few years, Rappaport returned for Puppy Bowl XII to annoy viewers by once again interrupting the puppy play, this time to intro overlong clips about the puppies, and has returned in that capacity for each Puppy Bowl since then.
    • Several of the Crossover cast members (and, surprisingly, the ref himself) drew similar complaints during Puppy Bowl IX.
    • For those who just want to see the kittens play, the use of "guest performers" and themed bits during the Kitty Halftime Show quickly became this.
