• In Memoriam: The 20th Bowl was dedicated to Team Ruff player Sweetpea, who passed away from health issues shortly after it was filmed.
• Never Work with Children or Animals:
  • The show Pitbulls And Parolees dedicated an episode to acclimating their Dog Bowl candidates to the stadium. They note that the dogs have to be okay with stage lights, loud noises, and fog machines. Some footage reveals that dogs in previous years were not into it.
  • Dan the Referee also admits that the puppies don't respect his authority. In fact, he even thinks he annoys them. He has also noted they will steal his flags, and he has to give them the point.
• Sleeper Hit: The show was created purely to have something cheap to air while the Super Bowl is going on. Lo and behold, it quickly ended up producing some of Animal Planet's highest ratings, smashing previous records repeatedly, and regularly manages to hold a high rating count each annual event. Never underestimate the power of Precious Puppies and Cute Kittens, it would seem.
