  • Crosses the Line Twice: Lawrence and the Arabians are an incredibly un-PC group of amateur singers who play out Arab stereotypes. Two children are dressed in brownface and one man is actually dressed as Osama bin Laden. Grant reacts with amazement.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • This movie is about a virus that is spread through words, more specifically, language. Cut to 2015, where Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain features a similar virus. The major difference is that it does not turn the infected into Technically Living Zombies, or any other sort of zombie for that matter, at least.
    • Grant posits that he doesn't even believe that UFO's exist. A common talking point is that UFO's do technically exist — that is, at their literal terminology, Unidentified Flying Objects. Any flying object that has not been identified is technically a UFO. This is the exact sort of quibbling over "real" meanings of words that Sydney and Grant use to immunize themselves from infection.
  • Paranoia Fuel: The film centers around a Hate Plague that manifests itself not as viral, bacterial, or fungal, but audible. The words you say aloud may gain lives of their own and try to take over your body.
  • Squick: Laurel Ann's death. She must have vomited at least a pint of blood onto that glass.
