• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Ash chasing Gary for his crude comments at the end of the episode becomes this as this is never followed up on in the following episode, aside from the gang acknowledging that Gary was probably well ahead of them by now.
• Memetic Mutation: Ash referencing the Macarena, due to how out of left field the reference is and for dating when the episode was made.
• Unexpected Character: Brock is revealed to have Zubat, which he caught off-screen from the Zubat swarm that attacked Seymour. Ash wishes that he could have thought of that earlier.
• Unintentional Period Piece: When attempting to interpret what Pikachu is saying, Ash incorrectly guesses that all the Clefairy collected rocks and did the Macarena..... Uh..... Yeah.
