YMMV / Playboi Carti

Go To

  • Broken Base: When Whole Lotta Red was initially released, it received extensive backlash, mostly focused towards the new sound and the sheer length of the album. Now you’ll find people going both ways.
  • Fandom Rivalry: With Lil Uzi Vert fans during the two rappers' real life friendship troubles. They started off as Friendly Fandoms, but when Carti and Uzi started beefing in late 2019, the fans split apart. Although it's worth noting that after Uzi said they were going to be on two songs on Whole Lotta Red and didn't show up at all on the album, both fanbases were disappointed. The fanbases once again were Friendly Fandoms when Carti confirmed that Uzi and him were back to being friends, as well as wanting to continue working on their long teased joint project 16/29.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Carti tweeted an ASCII art representation of being kicked out by his baby mama in 2018. Two years later, Iggy Azalea revealed that she would be raising her son she had with Carti alone after Carti had cheated on her, missed his son's birth and refused to sign the birth certificate. So he really was kicked out by his baby mama.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • “In New York, I Milly Rock, Hide it in my sock.”
    • His verse from the leaked track, “Pissy Pamper” with Young Nudy.
    • Whole Lotta Red taking a long time to drop.
    • The “New Tank Challenge”, which involves testing the lyrics to “New Tank” to someone.
    • “Playboi Carti Invented Music”: Comes from TheNeedleDrop’s “Let’s Argue” segment.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: The release of “Whole Lotta Red” was plagued by controversy surrounding Carti’s relationship with Iggy Azalea and their son.
