YMMV / Pink Panther's Passport to Peril

Go To

  • Cult Classic: Was overshadowed by both other point-and-click games as well as other edutainment games, but developed a pretty strong following for having the best of both worlds in one game.
  • First Installment Wins: The game received a sequel, but very few fans who played this game ever knew it existed. This is more in terms of notoriety though, in terms of reviews both games are equally well-liked.
  • Funny Moments: Quite a lot.
Pink: I guess you guys thought of everything.
Louie: That's right, man! We did!
    *Pug and Louie high-five*
    Pink: There's just one thing.
    Pug: Yeah?
Pink: *To Pug* If you're out here and he's out here...
    Louie: Yeah?
Pink: ...then WHO IS FLYING THE PLANE?
    • In India, rather than travel by map like in the other countries, you take a train. Each time you travel, Pink usually rides on top. With one time though he is instead on the train's side hanging on for dear life. With the last time he is at least in the train now, but he's pressed against the window by a yak.
    • In Egypt, clicking on a poisonous scorpion causes it to squeak like a rubber duck.
    • Clicking on the lamp vendor in Cairo will result in this exchange between him and Pink:
Pink: This may sound like a silly question, but...
Lamp Vendor: Do I have a magic lamp? You just saw Aladdin and you're looking for your very own genie, complete with a name voice talent! Welcome to reality! There's no three wishes, there's no Robbie Williams, just plain brass, pots, and hot sun. What can I get you?
    Pink: Uh, nothing. Thanks.
[a genie comes out of the lamp]
    Genie: Cynic.
    • Right clicking on certain objects will link you to a corresponding page in the PDA, along with a little voiced description. Some of these are nice and informative, other times they're full of snark.
      • Right clicking the newspaper vendor in London will reveal he's wearing a skirt behind the kiosk. Likewise, clicking on one of the rice farmers in China will go on and on about his ancestors also farming rice. This goes on until the narrator's voice begins speeding up.
    • The camp director trying to pretend nothing is wrong with the park is less than convincing given he is calling out to kids who aren't even there. One gets the idea he was pretty desperate, Pink meanwhile thinks he's just lost his mind and illustrates this to the player with various signs with crazy puns a la Hare Remover.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight
  • Nightmare Fuel
    • Camp Chilly Wa-Wa, day four. Everything has gone to hell. The sky's gone dark, Von Schmarty is gone, the robot children are falling apart left and right, and the music is also creepy.
    • The Stonehenge music counts as well. It's an ethereal-sounding piece with disembodied voices saying "Stonehenge" over and over.
    • Upon your second return to camp, checking up on the camp director will reveal he appears to have been beaten, as he's sporting a black eye and missing some teeth. You later find out Dogfather is most likely responsible for it in order to get him to follow through with his demands.
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: An easy but very well made point-and-click adventure game brimming with charisma that does a good job teaching various world cultures.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
  • Squick: Pink comes this close to throwing up when a man drinks from the Ganges River with a skull floating nearby.
    • During the song about mummification, a man witnessing the process is so grossed out by it that he literally dies.
  • Tear Jerker: The aforementioned "Taj Mahal" song is a rather heavy song to listen to because of its serious subject matter.
And this emperor couldn't stop his tears.
The news confirmed his darkest fears.
His childhood love, his lifelong friend.
    He would never see again.
    • Pink's reaction to the song even acknowledges this.
Pink: That was beautiful! *sniffles* I... have a job to finish. I really must go.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The game screams The '90s at times.
    • The Pogo Shoes are obvious parodies of Moon Shoes.
    • Mumbai uses its old name of Bombay, despite the name change happening a year before this game's release.
    • China's population has since doubled to over 2 billion since the game's release. China also abolished its One Child Policy in 2015.
