YMMV / Persia, the Magic Fairy

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: The original manga, Persia Ga Suki by Takako Aonuma, is so obscure it doesn't even have a Japanese Wikipedia page. Add in the large amounts of Adaptation Deviation the anime adds, and the manga has practically been forgotten by time.
  • Awesome Music: The first opening theme song Tripper in A Strange Country, sung by Maiko Okamoto. It goes from light to passionate at times, and shows off her amazing vocal range. The backing vocals also have a jazzy-like vibe to them. Listen here.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: While the show runs on Black Comedy, the most egregious example would be when a criminal breaks into Persia's house, so her kappa bring her a knife to throw at him. That is just one of the many things he endures, and by the end of it Persia and her friends gaslight him into thinking he has schizophrenia and he has a mental breakdown.
  • Cult Classic: It has this status in Japan as it was massively popular amongst viewers of all demographics. It could have something to do with the main character being an unconventional Spirited Young Lady, since Anne of Green Gables was also popular during that same time period for this very reason. It is so popular that even in YouTube videos about the Italian/French dubs that use the anime's Completely Different Titlenote , there's always an influx of Japanese comments.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: This anime has a small following in Italy amongst '80s kids. It aired right after Magical Angel Creamy Mami induced a craze for the Magical Girl genre.note  In 2024, a remastered dub was produced and broadcast on Italia 1.
  • Quirky Work: The anime is about an African-raised little Wild Child who spends her days playing with animals while wearing a loincloth being summoned into being a Magical Girl, with the threat of her male friends being turned into girls if she doesn't.
  • Values Dissonance: The way Africa is depicted in the anime. Apparently, "Africans" wear barely any clothing, are all close to animals and live as cavemen. The portrayal of black characters is even worse.
