  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Kali just being brainwashed by Hao, or does she genuinely have feelings for him? After all, she did get jealous when he was flirting with Anna.
    • On a similar note, Hao is a heartless sociopath, yet he does seem to get particularly incensed when it comes to the subject of Kali and Ren. In Chapter 24, he actually sounds jealous about Kali spending the previous night with Ren.
  • Angst? What Angst?: Chi doesn't seem to be dwell very much on her Dark and Troubled Past. Even Kali pointed out that she seemed very happy for a ghost who committed suicide. Possibly partly justified as Chi says she's happier and feels more free now that she's a spirit.
  • Never Live It Down: Kali kissing Ren in front of everyone in the middle of the arena.
    • Kali never let Chi forget the time that her carelessness got her thrown against a lamppost. It's more painful than it sounds.
  • Squick: At one point, it was mentioned that Ryu, a man in his late teens to twenties, hit on a fourteen-year-old. Yoh promptly punched him in the face for it.
    • Hao, a thousand-year-old man albeit in the body of a teenager, and Kali, who is all of 14-15 years old, have sexual relations and no one seems particularly disgusted by this. Of course, the only people who are probably aware are Hao's followers and they wouldn't dare say anything against their leader. But at one point one of his followers brings up the topic and he is completely nonchalant about it.
    • Anna has also brought it up. Yoh reacts, only to keep her from saying any more, but he doesn't seem particularly squicked out.
  • The Woobie: Chi. She grew up with distant, adoptive parents who never loved her and subjected her to ninjutsu training when she was just a little girl. She was already an outcast, but after being exposed to nuclear radiation, she gained strange, new powers, which made her even more of a freak to the eyes of others. She eventually became so depressed that she hung herself on the school’s flagpole. She’s even referred to as ‘one big sob story’. And her name sounds like a swear word.
    • Kali, to a lesser extent. According to Hao, she was considered a demon child. Growing up with her adoptive family, she had no other friend besides Yoh, and even with him, she had issues with, as she constantly struggled with the idea that she was weaker than him, and she had quite an extreme reaction when he left for Funbari Hills without her, which might suggest that she may have some abandonment issues, what with being a Doorstop Baby and her father barely being around. Not to mention that she had to deal with a murderous sociopath stalking her for most of her life.
