• Alternative Character Interpretation: Did Dean Pritchard only become a vindictive Jerkass as a result of torment in high school, or was he always a raging dickbag, making him less sympathetic as a victim of bullying?
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Beanie dressed up as a clown for his son's birthday. Todd Phillips later directed Joker (2019) that has a clown as the protagonist.
  • Pritchard asks Michael if he was a stand-up comedian. Patrick Fischer appeared in Mad Men as a stand-up comedian.
• Memetic Mutation:
  • "You're my boy, Blue!"
  • The end scene where Frank gets psyched in a supermarket aisle after a good run-in with a female classmate also counts, as it became a popular GIF in the late 2010s.
    Frank: Awesome! YES!!! *shadow-boxes and kicks at some stuff in the aisle* I am back! *spikes a box of Pop Tarts into his cart*
  • "We're going streaking!"
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • Mitch's girlfriend is played by Ellen Pompeo, who would later become a household name as the titular character of Grey's Anatomy.
  • Jerry, one of the fraternity members, is played by Simon Helberg, who would later gain recognition for his role as Howard Wolowitz on The Big Bang Theory.
  • Likewise, Patch, another one of the fraternity members, is played by Patrick J. Adams, who would later gain recognition for his role as Mike Ross on Suits.
• Tear Jerker:
  • Blue's death. And the scene with him in Heaven playing the piano while singing "Dust in the Wind".
  • After Blue's funeral, Frank meets up with his wife, telling her how much he missed her during their separation, and is willing to try to change for her. But she tells him that they may have made a mistake "rushing into things", saying they should get a divorce.
