- Audience-Alienating Premise: The idea for a Benji movie aimed at adults (and containing murder, sex, and foul language) didn't seem to win over any kids over—as well as a plot in which a detective played by Chevy Chase gets killed and gets turned into Benji the dog (while most of the jokes involving the dog urinating on something) didn't seem to attract most adults.
- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
- The counselor in Heaven has a lightsaber for no reason.
- The movie randomly stops itself because Benjamin is stuck as a dog and can't reach the top filing cabinet. So the counselor in Heaven randomly comes in and temporarily turns him back into a human and then randomly reads a book about Adolf Hitler.
- Bizarro Episode: For the Benji franchise as a whole.
- Fridge Logic: The counselor says that the body of the dog will have to be back by noon, or else Benjamin will stay a dog until he naturally dies—despite the fact that he has been shown to have turned him back to a human when the plot suits it.
- Uncertain Audience: To be expected when you try to make a Benji movie for adults.
- What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: It really, really isn't.
