• Awesome Music:
  • "Blub Choir". The sheer concept of Ominous Latin Blubbing is just so unbelievably stupid that it works.
  • It later gets a Triumphant Reprise for the final boss.
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Stacy gains this status in Dadliest Catch because of her Cloud Cuckoolander tendencies.
• Even Better Sequel: Dadliest Catch features much smoother gameplay and way better looks than the first game.
• Fan Nickname: Octodad is sometimes called Cthulhudad by fans, due to his tentacle face. Given a Fandom Nod in Dadliest Catch, since his wedding was in a Church of Cthulhu.
• Heartwarming in Hindsight: In the first game, Stacy believes that her favorite octopus doll will help protect her from monsters. This becomes much sweeter in the sequel, when she reveals that she already knew that her father was an octopus.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: One of the things one of the biologists can say: "The only animal more vicious than a shark is an OCTOPUS." It's funny that you say that...
• It's Short, So It Sucks!: Dadliest Catch is only about 2 hours long for $15, so it was bound to be hit with this.
• Jerkass Woobie: Fujimoto is a violent conspiracy nut who wants to kill Octodad, but is also a Shell-Shocked Veteran of a war where the trauma of killing enemy soldiers led him to hallucinate they were actually fish.
• Memetic Mutation: Statements along the lines of: "I don't get it. Who wants to play a game about a normal guy going about his day?" are quite popular.
• Nightmare Fuel: This video uploaded by the developers regarding the various... issues they came across when coding the physics for Octodad's model.
• Play-Along Meme: Since the main conceit of the game is almost nobody realizing the titular character is an octopus in disguise, it's become common for videos and pictures of him to be met with comments wondering what's so interesting about this normal everyday dad doing normal everyday things.
• Spiritual Licensee: Probably the closest we'll ever get to a Chicken Boo game.
• That One Level: From the first game: the spiders in Stacy's bedroom
  • In Dadliest Catch, there's the escalator in the Deep Sea Exhibit. You have to climb an escalator as it moves in the opposite direction, and then once you've finally beaten it, there's another escalator that's going even faster.
  • The stealth sections in Dadliest Catch during the final few stages were so unpopular that they were removed in a patch for the PC version and weren't in the Playstation 4 version.
  • Walking across the ceiling rafters to make a pathway for Stacy in the fight against the Chef.
  • The part in Dadliest Catch where Octodad has to escape the Chef at Gervason's.
• Spiritual Successor: If Foddy ever made QWOP: 3D it would probably be a lot like this.
• Ugly Cute: Octodad of course. He may just be an octopus, but with his big, bulging eyes and general nervous demeanor it's hard not to love him.
• The Woobie:
  • It's hard not to feel for Octodad, especially since the game communicates very effectively how tough getting through the day is.
  • The end of the sequel trailer has a brief scene of Octodad staring sadly / wistfully into a tank of fish.
