• Adorkable:
  • NostalgiaSquare is a cheerful protagonist who is always willing to help others, and is admittingly quite dorky when it comes to his obsession with nostalgia. Sometimes his meaner traits can overshadow this, but he still remains humble.
  • Molly is very shy, yet a helpful friend.
• Awesome Ego: Green Square is portrayed as very egotistical, and many people love him inside and outside of the series because of it. He's also sometimes more recognizable than the titular character. Helps that he made many appearances on TikTok. And he's also the current profile picture on NostalgiaSquare's Facebook account.
• Base-Breaking Character: NostalgiaSquare himself could count as this. There are fans who like him for his kindness and for being the Only Sane Man a few times, while others dislike him for being a huge Jerkass in most episodes of the series. Not helping matters is that many viewers stopped watching the series because of his selfishness.
• Character Perception Evolution: During the start of the series up until 2020, a very large group of online users absolutely hated NostalgiaSquare himself as user and as a character for being a hot-tempered Spoiled Brat who bashed opinions and often got angry over the littlest of things and was a huge Jerkass to most of the people he came across. This hatebase was so big that he even spawned a page on the (now deleted) Crummy Scratchers Wiki. However, by the time Season 5 came out, this hatred started to become more downplayed with him admitting the horrible things he has done in the past and started to slowly become a Jerk with a Heart of Gold at best. After that, NostalgiaSquare became more of a Base-Breaking Character and many detractors now forgive him and he still has many fans who are still with him. Even if he started acting like a prick again in Season 7.
• Memetic Mutation: NostalgiaSquare's infamous catchphrase "YOU SHALL PAY" has became an internet meme on both Scratch, and to a lesser extent, YouTube. It was even recycled in one of his alt projects.
• Moe: Basically anyone in this show can count. Even the mean ones.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: The only characters outside of NostalgiaSquare himself to get A Day in the Limelight include Green Square, Death Row Dave, Fallen Star and Scratch Cat. There are a few characters that play a fairly major and supporting role in certain episodes (such as Bubblegum12345e, HealthyJacob1 and Molly), but not to the point of being completely dedicated to them. Some of them even eventually became Out of Focus, such as Cool Blue, Sidney, and Classical Bully.
