YMMV / Ninotchka

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: There is a short gag at the train station where the three commissioners mistake a man for their superior, only to see him give a Nazi salute and a "Heil Hitler" to his wife. The joke actually soured between filming and release, because Germany declared war during that time. Now that what the Nazis did is well-known, it's even harsher.
  • Memetic Mutation: Leon's speech about midnight romance to Ninotchka has gotten quiet a but of followers.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Bela Lugosi as Ninotchka's superior officer, Komissar Razinin.
  • Slow-Paced Beginning: The title character played by Greta Garbo doesn't show up until around the 19-minute mark, but once she does, the movie immediately finds its voice and starts to get interesting.
