YMMV / Negima!? (second season)

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: In Episode 8, titled "'Professor, please make us adults,' by Fuka, Fumika" the twins ask Negi to make them adults, meaning to form pactios with them, giving them adult responsibilities rather than treating them like children. Of course, in Japan, to make someone an adult means the same as making someone a man/woman does to English-speakers — in other words, a euphemism for taking that person's virginity.
  • Arc Fatigue: The characters spend 10 episodes trapped in the fake Mahora and for the most part, they're just going about their day, not doing anything particularly exciting.
  • Awesome Music:
    • "1000% Sparking" has a more action-packed feel to it compared to the franchise's other openings like "Happy Material".
    • Kei Haneoka's wonderful soundtrack captures the magical, heartwarming feel of Negima perfectly. So much so that he keeps coming back to compose for other Negima adaptations. The Pactio theme is a perfect example.
  • Flat Character: None of the characters get the development their original manga counterparts got. Everyone is defined by their personality traits.
  • Quirky Work: Compared to the original manga and other entries in the Negima franchise, this anime is a good deal sillier and more prone to Deranged Animation, particularly with its characterization of Asuna as a ditzy loony who's obsessed with chupacabras.
  • This Is Your Premise on Drugs: Negima!? is Negima on... well, whatever Studio SHAFT is usually on.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Asuna in the Spring Special OVA. She disrupts Negi's studies, insisting that he goes to bed and following a heated argument, Negi snaps at her telling her that it's none of her business (a rare instance of Negi actually issuing an instruction as a teacher). Asuna spends the next four-day sulking about it and giving Negi the cold shoulder, despite the fact that he apologized to her several times- all because he told her to stop being such a Control Freak. Rather than an endearing Tsundere, she comes across as whiny and immature throughout the entire episode.
