YMMV / Mystic Warriors

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The entire soundtrack qualifies, especially Hellrazor, Majestic Fortress, and Dominator.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Curiously, this game is mostly remembered for Yuri in thongs and the possibility of having her bound and gagged in the intro of the game. Even the arcade flyer takes full advantage of the Male Gaze.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • A line from the opening sequence stated "It's sure to be mega-hit!" While the game was well received, it was released during a time where arcades were transitioning into 3D and fighting games, and did not end up as a mega-hit. As such the game was relegated to arcade machines and did not see any home ports until 2023.
    • In addition to the Twin Towers in the first stage's background, a later stage starts with a giant aircraft crashing down a city and causing a massive explosion.
  • Nintendo Hard: What did you expect from the creators of Contra? Though it's a lot more merciful than the Contra arcade games (or heck, some other older Konami arcade games). For instance, you've got infinite continues and the 4-player option will tremendously help if you got friends to play with.
  • Player Punch: The Heroic Sacrifice of the captured ninja companion.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Sunset Riders, but with futuristic ninjas rather than Wild West cowboys.
  • Suspiciously Similar Songs: Great Airforce (the third segment of Stage 7) has a hint of Carl Carlton's "She's a Bad Mama Jama" while Dominator (the final boss theme) has a pinch of Haddaway's "What Is Love" thrown in.
  • Tear Jerker: While the captured ninja's Heroic Sacrifice might suffer from Narm, the music (spoilers) that goes with the scene is genuinely tragic.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Despite taking place in a near future setting, the Twin Towers are seen in the background of the first state.
