Creator's Pet: Franklin, who in later episodes would have bigger impacts on the plot than Michael's wife and kids, to the point of becoming a recurring Deus ex Machina. In the episode that deals with the remodel of the garage, he saves the day by revealing he's a certified contractor; and in the episode where Michael becomes a Jerkass after curb-stomping everyone in foosball, Franklin is the one who somehow has the skills to put him in his place.
Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The show's pretty popular in Brazil, due to it being constantly aired in an open TV channel, as well as in Italy and France, where it got frequents reruns.
More Popular Replacement: The second Claire, played by Jennifer Nicole Freeman, is much more popular than the first one, played by Jazz Raycole in season 1. Justified, as season 1 only lasted 11 episodes and we get to know Freeman's Claire much more. Freeman's Claire was also a clumsier, more flawed character and this made her funnier.
In the episode "Crouching Mother, Hidden Father", a little girl singing a verse from "Don't Rain On My Parade" during a Kindergarten audition is none other than Beanie Feldstein around age 10.
TJ Thyne, best known as Jack Hodgins from Bones, had two different roles on this show. First as the pizza delivery guy in "Outbreak Money" and then as a store manager in "Open Your Heart".
"Samba Story" (2002) features SofĂa Vergara in what was only her second or third acting role, after guest appearances on the soap opera Acapulco, cuerpo y alma (1995), and a supporting role in Big Trouble (also in 2002).
Values Dissonance: Most of the jokes about homosexuality (and LGBTQ+ topics, for that matter) are very clearly of a different time period. So much so, when the series was syndicated on Nick @ Nite in the mid 2010's, most, but not all, of these jokes were edited out (though this may also have been for timeslot reasons, but still).
