YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S6 E22 "P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View)"

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Rarity dismissing "whacking" as a "base pastime for common ponies". Even Jim Miller couldn't resist suggesting it could be "giffed out of context" in his live Twitter feed during the episode's initial broadcast.
  • Ass Pull: The appearance of the bunyip, a creature of whom the audience had no prior knowledge apart from a Blink-and-You-Miss-It appearance on Applejack's map, and who turned out to be the cause of the ship's sinking, made many viewers feel like this trope was at play. Many called it a cop out, especially when the episode seemed to be building up to a resolution where it turned out Applejack, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie are all to blame. Though it does at least come from genuine mythology rather than being made up whole cloth like some of the show's other creatures.
  • Fanfic Fuel: This is the first time in the series that junior flight camp reunions are mentioned. note  One must wonder with curious interest as to what Rainbow Dash, Gilda, and Fluttershy did when they went to the reunion.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Given the show's industry-standard embargo on reading fanfics, the title is surprisingly similar to the Pony POV Series.
    • The episode immediately before this one had Pinkie declare that she never burns cakes (as she was upset that Starlight's spell made her do just that). She ends up burning some other baked goods in this episode. Either it's a case of Exact Words (since it was muffins that she burned in this episode, not a cake or even cupcakes), or it was meant to show that she's that upset.
  • Les Yay: Hidden. Rarity, in Applejack's flashback, has the same dress and hat worn by Rose from Titanic. And her lover in the movie is called Jack.
  • So Okay, It's Average: While many fans liked the different stories between the ponies, the considerably low stakes and by-the-books approach of this episode gave some audiences this reaction.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Both the storm sequence and ending shot of the episode look fantastic.
