YMMV / My Dad Wrote a Porno

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: Occasionally, the hosts have mocked seemingly ludicrous elements of Rocky's writing, only to be informed that they are actually real. The most notable example is their incredulousness at Rocky's description of a hidden crew break area in airoplanes, which their viewers proceeded to inform them actually do exist in a manner not too dissimilar from Rocky's description.
  • Angst? What Angst?: At one point, Belinda is tricked into having a threesome filmed in front of a live audience outside her window. The hosts note that this would probably be pretty traumatic in real life, but Belinda's main concern is whether she managed to attract a bigger crowd that the previous record holder.
    • On a meta level, Jamie seems relatively ok with his dad having written a porno, though he has the occasional Brain Bleach moment when he throws in some especially unusual or at least unexpected fetishes.
Jamie: Alice, why do you never blink when you say these things to me? It's so horrible!
Alice: Say it! Say "My dad will know about anal play!" Just say it!
  • Funny Moments: Too many to list all of them, but:
    • Every single one of Rocky's attempts to avoid copyright infringement by naming things slightly differently than their actual brand names. For example, Special K becomes Special Jay, and a Kit Kat Chunky becomes a Tit Tat Crunchy.
    • In chapter 8 of book 5, Rocky writes that Belinda has never watched TV and prefers the hobby of decoupage. James doesn't know what decoupage is, so Alice explains it to him - it's the art of cutting out pictures, mostly of flowers, and gluing them to furniture. This, for some reason, strikes James as impossibly hilarious, and the next minute or two of the episode consists of James screaming with laughter while Jamie and Alice can't do a thing to stop it.
    • Part 2 of the finale gives us a character masturbating their penis described as "[wringing] its neck", sending Alice and James into hysterics.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Early on, out of all the minor characters, Dez Martin seemed to be particularly popular. Any mentions of Bill from HR also leads to the group cheering.
  • Like You Would Really Do It:
    • In book 3, one chapter ends with Belinda crashing her car, her fate unknown, prompting much speculation. In the next chapter, it's sort of ret-conned into a flat tire and Belinda is fine.
    • Similarly, the first chapter of book 5 ends with Bella seemingly dead from an explosion. She wakes up from a coma at the end of the second chapter, none the worse for wear, apparently willing herself back to life due to the promise of partaking in a threesome with Belinda and a hot doctor. The hosts note that they'll never seriously entertain the possibility that Rocky will kill off a character again.
  • Tear Jerker: By the standards of a porno, Belinda's grief at Giselle's betrayal at the end of Book 4 is surprisingly sad. Jamie's anguished performance really sells it.
